[Mycolleagues] [CFP] 10th Int'l Conf on Mobile Data Mangement: Systems, Services and Middleware (MDM 2009)

                         The 10th International Conference on

     Mobile Data Management (MDM'09): Systems, Services and Middleware

                           May 18-21 2009, Taipei, Taiwan

                    http://adslab.cs.nctu.edu.tw/mdm2009/

                        ***** CALL FOR PAPERS *****

Since the debut in December 1999, the MDM series of conferences has established itself as a prestigious forum for the exchange of innovative and significant research results in mobile data management. The conference provides unique opportunities for researchers, engineers, practitioners, developers, and users to explore new ideas, techniques, and tools, and to exchange experiences.

In the past decade, we have witnessed significant advances in wireless communications and mobile technology, along with continuous appearance of versatile mobile gadgets and rapid growth in sensors and actuators. Meanwhile, high-precision outdoor and indoor positioning technology has become mature and available. A global, pervasive computing infrastructure that may profoundly change the way people live and work is emerging. Mobile and pervasive computing and communication are enabled at an unprecedented scale and density.

All these technological developments are expected to bring us a next wave of information revolution and change our society. However, as we move a step closer from mobile computing towards the grand vision of pervasive and ubiquitous computing, a number of challenges need to be overcome, especially when it comes to data-intensive applications: scale, variable and intermittent connectivity, location dependence and context awareness, bandwidth and power consumption, device size limitations, and multimedia delivery across hybrid networks.

Conventional issues in data management have to be reconsidered and reevaluated in this rapidly changing environment. Non-traditional issues including mobility, data semantics, context modeling, broadcast and multicast delivery, data availability, trust and privacy must also be addressed effectively. Additionally, starting from 2009, MDM will extend its scope to cover research issues in mobile systems, services and middleware.

ICST - CFP for WNS2 (Deadline Extended)

The Workshop on ns-2 (WNS2) (http://www.wns2.org/) is a two-day event held in conjunction with VALUETOOLS 2008, the Third International Conference on Performance Evaluation Methodologies and Tools (http://www.valuetools.org/), during the week of 20-24 October 2008 in Athens, Greece. WNS2 2008 follows the success of the first WNS2 workshop in 2006. A tutorial day on Thursday 23 October is followed by presentation of reviewed papers on Friday 24 October 2008.

The main goals of this second WNS2 workshop are to bring together networking researchers from both academia and industry, to discuss recent advances, to identify future directions in network simulation, and to foster interdisciplinary collaborative research in this area. The workshop aims to emphasise the future evolution of ns-2, now that ns-3 is under active development, and its extension in novel research areas and networking technologies and scenarios.

TOPICS OF INTEREST

This workshop focuses on the ns simulator in itself, and in improving simulation. We seek original contributions that go beyond the use of
ns-2 "as is" for networking scenarios, and which try to make ns do something new and different. Topics of interest for the Workshop include, but are not limited to:

Structural developments/enhancements to the ns-2 simulator itself:
- Presentation/evaluation of new features/architectures under development for ns-3.
- Dynamic management of libraries / ns-Modules.
- Large-scale network simulation and model-based simulation approaches.
- Development of parallel and distributed versions of ns. Use of virtualization with ns.
- Integration of simulation and emulation.
- Post-processing tools, including GUIs for statistical analysis and visualization of simulation results.

Simulator use and validation of simulation accuracy:
- Validation of ns behaviour with experimentation and real data from implementations.
- Comparative studies of ns and other network simulation tools, both commercial and freely available.
- Environments and methodologies: the best practices, third-party code, helper scripts, and frameworks that serious users of ns recommend to get things done.

New simulation models and features:
- Wireless channel modelling.
- Frameworks for cross-layer support.
- Mobile and wireless networks, 3G/4G networks, WLANs, WPANs, WiMAX, Mesh networks...
- Delay-tolerant networking.
- Congestion-control and transport-layer issues in long-fat networks.
- Mobility: network mobility (NEMO), physical node mobility (e.g., group mobility models).
- Sensor and actuator networks (wireless, underwater, underground).
- Peer-to-peer systems.
- Network coding: data dissemination, encoding/decoding suites.
- Grid computing.

IMPORTANT DATES

Submission of research papers due: June 9, 2008 Notification of paper acceptance: July 1, 2008 Submission of camera-ready papers due: August 1, 2008 Paper presentation date: October 24, 2008

PAPER SUBMISSION

Workshop on
Applications of Private and Anonymous Communications
(in conjunction with Securecomm 2008)

September 22, 2008, Istanbul, Turkey

http://www.alpaca-workshop.org/
-----------------------------------------------------

During the last few decades we have seen a tremendous
number of activities (and publications) regarding
anonymous communication systems, how to make them
better, various attacks, defenses etc. Even though
the implicit assumption of any anonymity work is to
have it applied in a real world, few of those
activities focus on actual practical systems, and the
questions remain if we are doing research on the right
thing? how far we are from dealing with the real
issues? and are the goals that we try to achieve with
these systems those that we are optimizing for?

This workshop solicits papers concerned with what
happens on top of and around the anonymizing layer,
with a view of how this affects the anonymity system.
That is in some ways the user's, operator's, ISP's,
etc. view of and experience with anonymity systems and
how anonymity systems need to be improved.

Topics of interest are (but not limited to):

* Use cases for anonymous communication systems
* Practical experiences with anonymous
communication systems
* Case studies
* Novel applications of anonymous communication
systems
* Economic incentives / business models for using
or deploying anonymous communication systems
* Performance and evaluation tools of real systems
* Usability
* Feedback from real users
* Legal issues with running anonymous communication
systems

Important dates:
----------------
* Submission deadline: 8 June 2008
* Notification date: 14 July 2008
* Camera ready submission deadline: 10 August 2008
* Workshop: 22 September 2008

Submission instructions:
------------------------

Only PDF formats are accepted for all submissions. Paper
submissions must not exceed 8 pages in IEEE conference
style, two-column format, including the bibliography and
appendices. The Authors' kit can be found on the workshop
webpage.

http://www.pm2hw2n.acca-group.info/

October 27 - 31, 2008

SCOPE and OVERVIEW:

Wireless networks, including WLAN, WiMax, wireless personal networks, ad
hoc, sensor, along with pervasive networks, have witnessed their fastest
growth period over the last few years and have become increasingly
complex. Nonetheless, performance evaluation and analysis of wireless
networks have been conducted mostly through software simulations (e.g.,
using ns-2 or OPNET tools). Recently, research efforts have been
directed towards measuring real-world commercial and experimental
networks; constructing models based on real-world data and using
prototypes to evaluate solutions more realistically and comprehensively
and to validate assumptions and conclusions that are reached via
simulation experiments.

Performance monitoring, measurement, and evaluation of heterogeneous
wired and wireless mobile networks pose a new set of unique challenges
due to the particular inherent properties of these systems and due to
the characteristics of the wireless transmission medium.

The aim of this workshop is to bring together scientists, engineers, and
practitioners in order to share and exchange their experiences, discuss
challenges, and report state-of-the-art and in-progress research on all
aspects of performance measurements, monitoring, and evaluation of
heterogeneous wired and wireless mobile networks, including, wireless ad
hoc, sensor, and ubiquitous networks.
