Special Issue on "Recent Advances in Wireless Data Broadcasting"

In the last years, the increasing availability of wireless networking
infrastructure, as well as the emergence of low-cost mobile computing
devices, lead the promise of ubiquitous computing closer to reality. In
this context, data broadcasting has emerged as an efficient method of
disseminating information over asymmetric wireless environments where
client needs for data items are usually overlapping. In such cases,
broadcasting is an efficient solution, since the broadcast of a single
data item is likely to satisfy a large number of clients. While
traditional data broadcasting problems, such as schedule construction
and query processing have received significant attention in the past, a
number of issues, many of which comprise significant research areas and
are sometimes multidisciplinary in nature, are presently interesting to
the research community. This special issue aims at providing a timely
and concise, reference of the current activities and new findings in the
field of wireless data broadcasting.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following list:
• Broadcast/multicast wireless dissemination of data.
• Location-based services and other services
• Adaptive wireless data broadcasting.
• Multimedia wireless data broadcasting.
• Client caching/prefetching.
• Broadcast data indexing
• Broadcasting in disruption-tolerant networks
• Broadcasting in static wireless ad hoc networks
• Broadcasting in vehicular ad hoc networks
• Hybrid wireless data broadcasting systems.
• Estimation of client demands.
• Energy efficient approaches.
• New approaches for schedule construction.
• Security and compression issues.
• Novel architectures and applications of wireless data broadcasting.
• Performance studies and testing.
• New standardization and deployment
• Business plans / business models for wireless data broadcasting
