[Tccc] CFP: Fourth IEEE International Workshop on Practical Issues in Building Sensor Network Applications (IEEE SENSEAPP 2009)

Apologies if duplicated
__________________________________________________________________________________

SENSEAPP 2009
FOURTH IEEE INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON PRACTICAL ISSUES IN
BUILDING SENSOR NETWORK APPLICATIONS
(in conjunction with IEEE LCN 2009)
Zurich, Switzerland
20 - 23 October 2009
Web: http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~senseapp

CALL FOR PAPERS

Sensor nodes are tiny autonomous devices that combine sensing,
computing and wireless communication capabilities. These nodes are
deeply embedded into the physical surroundings, and gather and process
information such as temperature, humidity, light characteristics,
seismic activities or images and sound samples from the physical
world. Networked systems of such sensors are expected to be used in a
variety of applications including habitat monitoring, precision
agriculture, disaster recovery operations, healthcare and supply chain
management. Real-world sensor network deployments and prototypic
implementations are still not commonplace. However, experiences gained
in such deployments are crucial for the sensor network research
community. These results are needed to refine assumptions made when
designing hardware, software, protocols and mechanisms for sensor
networks.

This workshop aims at bringing together researchers from academia and
industry to showcase their work and obtain feedback. We expect the
workshop to act as a forum for the sensor network research community
to discuss open issues, novel solutions and the future development of
wireless sensor networks in general. We encourage contributions
describing innovative work in the realm of wireless sensor networks.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Experiences from real-world sensor network deployment and applications
Innovative sensor network applications
Participatory sensing
Middleware support for sensor networks
Programming and debugging sensor networks
Security, availability and dependability issues in sensor networks
Experiences with new sensor hardware
Practical problems in implementing localization and time synchronization
Experiences with communication protocols
Practical medium access control protocols (MACs)
Topology control and routing protocols in existing sensor network
deployments
Fault-tolerance and troubleshooting sensor networks
Antenna design and experiences with signal propagation
Experiences regarding energy management and network lifetime
Configuration and installation support
Management of large-scale sensor networks
Interconnection between IP and sensor networks

Submitted papers will be reviewed by three independent experts in the
field. Proceedings of the workshop will be published together with
those of IEEE LCN, and will be available in digital format from the
IEEE Explore Digital Library.

[Tccc] Call for Chapter Proposals -ZigBee Network Protocols and Applications

(Please accept our apologies for multiple postings of this Call for Papers)

******** Call for Chapter Proposals ********

You are invited to propose papers for a BOOK on:

*ZigBee Network Protocols and Applications*

(To be published by Auerbach Publications, CRC Press, Taylor & Francis
Group)

*SCOPE*

ZigBee is a new standard for near-field wireless communications. It was
developed by the ZigBee Alliance, which is a global ecosystem of over 200
major OEMs creating wireless solutions for home, commercial and industrial
applications, focusing on standardizing and enabling interoperability of
products. ZigBee can provide a cost-effective and energy-efficient means for
short-range networking and it is a promising candidate for
energy-constrained applications, such as wireless sensor networks. Moreover,
it is the only global wireless communication standard for the development of
easily deployed, low-power consumption products. Several multi-billion
dollar OEMs, as well as major suppliers, support the ZigBee Alliance.
Compared with other wireless communication technology, such as Bluetooth,
WiFi and UWB, ZigBee is more reliable, cheaper, and importantly more
energy-conservative.

The protocol stack of ZigBee is compact and its size is only 4-32 KB, which
can be compatible with 8-bits micro-processors. An integrated protocol stack
of ZigBee consists of four top-down layers: application layer, network
layer, MAC layer and PHY layer. The PHY and MAC layers adopt the standard of
IEEE802.15.4, which makes the solutions independent of RF IC vendors due to
the 2.4GHz standardized radio by IEEE 802.15.4. Therefore, ZigBee is more
cost-effective for designing short-range wireless communication
applications. Based on the PHY and MAC layers, the specifications of ZigBee
introduce reliable and secure network topologies, including mesh, star and
cluster-tree topology. The upper layers, however, can be specified by the
OEMs for specific design requirements. For example, the design of routing
protocols for WSNs always needs to be energy-efficient. In addition, we also
can exploit adaptive cross-layer design for performance optimization.

Usually, the applications based on ZigBee are generally low-power, flexible
and easily deployable. Hence, some issues in the design of ZigBee networks
should be considered, including power management, security, quality of
service, reliability and dependability, topology control, routing protocol,
MAC protocol and so on. Typically, the efficient power management is much
important. In addition, due to the vulnerability of wireless channel,
security control mechanism needs to be incorporated into the design of
ZigBee networks. Although people more likely realize specific designs
through high-layer protocol adaptation, the MAC layer can be also adjusted
or improved accodingly.

ZigBee networks has the following requirements and features: low power
assumption, low cost, low packet throughput, lots of network nodes, low
request on quality of service, security control, complicated topology, high
reliability. Therefore, it has been becoming widely used in many
applications, e.g., medical industry, home networking, location and
position, industrial automation, intelligent monitoring and control,
telecommunication, wireless sensor networks and etc. Many OEMs are currently
available to provide different solutions and tools for developing various
ZigBee-based applications.

October 14-17, 2009
http://conference.bjtu.edu.cn/
Paper Submission due: 15th April, 2009
========================================================================
In the past few decades, the Internet has made remarkably success. However, its architecture is losing its original simplicity and transparency, due to the emergence of new classes of applications, operational and management requirements, business models, security mechanisms and scalability enablers give rise to point solutions that extend the architecture without regard to the original design principles.
While these mechanisms are necessary for Internet operation under current economical, technical and social conditions, their combination has significantly increased the complexity of the Internet and reduced the potential for incremental evolution of the Internet architecture. As a result, several substantial Future Internet initiatives have started in Europe, the US and Asia, and the vendor and network operator communities are also actively discussing the limitations of the current Internet architecture as well as its potential evolution.
This conference will discuss what the real underlying problems are with the Internet and how we might fix them, so that the architectural simplicity and clarity of the Internet can be regained and retained for another 30+ years.
This conference solicits original, high-quality papers that analyze, and discuss ideas for a new Internet architecture, including specific improvements to current Internet protocols, especially at the internetworking, transport and application layers, new internetworking components that integrate into the existing architecture and ideas for clean-slate internetworking architectures.

Ad Hoc & Sensor Communications & Networks
Wireless Communications
Information Infrastructure

Scope:
The field of ad hoc, sensor and mesh networking is reemerging amid
unprecedented growth in the scale and diversity of computer networking. A
Mobile ad hoc network (Manet) is a system of wireless mobile nodes
dynamically self organizing in arbitrary and temporary network topologies.
People and vehicles can thus be internetworked in areas without a
pre-existing communication infrastructure, or when the use of such
infrastructure requires wireless extension. Therefore, such networks are
designed to operate in widely varying environments, from military networks
(with hundreds of nodes) to low-power sensor networks and other embedded
systems. Dynamic topologies, Bandwidth constraints, Energy-constrained
operations, Wireless vulnerabilities, and limited physical security are
among the characteristics that differentiate Mobile ad hoc networks from
fixed multihop networks.

This symposium aims at providing a forum for sharing ideas among
researchers and practitioners working on state-of-the-art solutions to the
challenges above. We are seeking papers that describe original and
unpublished contributions addressing various aspects of ad hoc, sensor and
mesh networks.

Prospective authors are invited to submit original technical papers by the
deadline 15 March 2009 for publication in the IEEE GLOBECOM 2009
Conference Proceedings and for oral or poster presentation(s).

All submissions should be written in English with a maximum paper length
of six (6) printed pages (10-point font) including figures, without
incurring additional page charges (maximum 2 additional pages, with
overlength page fee). Standard IEEE Transactions templates for Microsoft
Word or LaTeX formats found at
http://www.ieee.org/portal/pages/pubs/transactions/stylesheets.html.

EC-Web 2009

After the initial enthusiastic initiatives and investments and the
eventual bubble, Electronic Commerce has changed and evolved in a
well established and founded reality both from a technological point
of view and from a scientific one. Nevertheless, together with its
evolution, new challenges and topics have emerged as well as new
questions have raised related to many aspects of Electronic Commerce.

After the lesson learned during last years, for its 10th edition
EC-Web completely renews its structure trying to provide a clearer
description of the Electronic Commerce universe focusing on some
relevant topics. The main focus is not only on Internet related
techniques and approaches. The aim of EC-Web 2009 is to cover also
aspects related to theoretical foundation of E-Commerce, Business
Processes as well as new approaches exploiting recently emerged
technologies and scenarios such as Semantic Web, Web services,
SOA architectures, mobile and ubiquitous computing, just to cite a
few. Due to their central role in any realistic e-commerce
infrastructure security and privacy issues are widely considered,
without excluding legal and regulatory aspects.

We encourage papers that present innovative solutions for classical
E-Commerce issues, such as e-negotiation, recommender systems,
secure payments, as well as for new emerging areas, such as the
Semantic Web, applied Web services, applied soft computing and
information retrieval techniques in web and/or e-commerce
environments.

Although the conference seems naturally focused on computer science
issues, we welcome and encourage research contributions from
economics, business administration, law, sociology and other
disciplines. In particular, papers about web marketing and its
non-technical aspects, as well as about social aspects of
e-commerce are encouraged. We also welcome papers reporting
about innovative applications and case studies in the field of
E-Commerce and/or Web Applications, like, e.g., Electronic Voting
and Sponsored web search.

In order to provide a better categorization and classification
of its main goals, Ec-Web 2009 will be organized as a multi-track
conference. Each track will be organized as a mini-conference with
corresponding reference area chairs.
Even though the main focus of the conference concerns the
relationship between E-commerce and emerging technologies, with
strong attention toward semantics aspects, contributions about
theoretical issues as well as cross-track contributions are very
welcome.

[Tccc] CFP: Journal of Communications (JCM) Special Issue on Networking Coding and Applications

Journal of Communications
Special Issue on Networking Coding and Applications

http://www.academypublisher.com/jcm/si/jcmsi_nca.html

Network coding has attracted significant interest from the research
community in recent years. It advocates a fundamental shift in the way
communication networks are designed since it allows nodes in the
network to code packets besides simply forwarding them. The first
theoretical results were followed by a wealth of activities that
exploit the basic idea in practical algorithms and protocols. Network
coding was shown to be a versatile technique that can improve
performance in a number of different areas of computer communications
and networking. For example, it has been successfully applied to
wireless network protocols to improve throughput. In addition, network
coding may be used to increase robustness and reduce latency, energy
consumption, and storage requirements.

Topics

This special issue seeks high-quality articles that address both
theoretical aspects of network coding as well as practical protocols
and algorithms. Areas of interest include but are not limited to:

* Network architectures for network coding
* Algorithms and protocols for network coding
* Wireless ad hoc networks
* Sensor networks
* Physical layer network coding
* P2P communication
* Network coding for storage
* Network coding for energy efficiency
* Network coding for network security
* Joint source coding and network coding

Submission

Submitted papers must be original and not have been previously
published or currently submitted for journal publication elsewhere.
Papers, which have appeared previously in proceedings of conferences,
could be submitted to this special issue if they are substantially
revised or improved from their earlier versions. The full paper should
ideally not exceed 14 single-space pages of A4, including
illustrations and tables. Submissions must be submitted though the
online system and also sent via email to GE <anargyr@ieee.org>. Please
identify your submission in the email subject line "Submission - JCM
Special Issue on Network Coding". Complete guidelines for prospective

**** Please submit your papers by 3 April 2009! ****

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CALL FOR PAPERS
GEOSENSOR NETWORKS 2009
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

13-14 July 2009, Oxford, United Kingdom

Website: http://www.comlab.ox.ac.uk/geosensornetworks/

Sponsored by:
University of Oxford

Papers to be published by Springer in the "Lecture Notes in Computer
Science" (LNCS) series. They will also be indexed electronically on
SpringerLink.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Geosensor networks shift the traditional centralized paradigm of
monitoring a geographical area from the macroscale to the microscale,
by using distributed sensors to measure variables of interest (such as
environmental, biological and chemical variables, seismic activity and
geolocated videofeeds). Whilst having the ability to provide data with
unparalleled temporal and spatial resolution, geosensor networks have
pushed the frontiers of traditional GIS research into the realms of
computer science, introducing issues such as data fusion, geolocated
queries, energy efficient data collection and data mining and
interpretation. The incorporation of mobile devices into these
networks allows data acquisition to be undertaken on a spatially
varying sampling resolution, introducing new research avenues such as
co-operative sensing and dynamic coverage. Furthermore, geosensor
networks are not only constrained to passively monitor a region,
through actuators, they also have the ability to influence or modify
their environment.

Research in geosensor networks spans multiple fields, ranging from
strategies for intelligent data acquisition to virtual reality
interactions with environmental dynamics. Of particular interest are
applications of geosensor networks, such as environmental monitoring,
precision agriculture, early warning systems and wildlife tracking.
This workshop seeks to address these issues, by bringing together
leading experts in a two day forum to present novel research and
exchange ideas relating to the state of the art and its future
directions. Real world results are particularly welcomed, as are
reports of interesting or challenging deployments.

Sponsoring Technical Committees:

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Prospective authors are invited to submit original technical papers by the
deadline 15 March 2009 for publication in the IEEE GLOBECOM 2009
Conference Proceedings and for oral or poster presentation(s).

All submissions should be written in English with a maximum paper length
of six (6) printed pages (10-point font) including figures, without
incurring additional page charges (maximum 2 additional pages, with
overlength page fee). Standard IEEE Transactions templates for Microsoft
Word or LaTeX formats found at
http://www.ieee.org/portal/pages/pubs/transactions/stylesheets.html.

passengers and reduce transportation time and fuel consumption with
many potential applications. For instance, vehicular safety applications
include automatic collision notification, heavy fog detection and
notification, remote diagnostics, emergency management, and other
assistances for safe driving. Non-safety applications include real-time
traffic congestion notification, location-based driver information services,
high-speed tolling, vehicle tracking, automobile high speed Internet access,
in-place traffic view, and many others. To facilitate these applications,
many different types of communications and networking would be involved,
including intra-vehicle, vehicle-to-vehicle (V-to-V),
vehicle-to-roadside (V-to-R) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V-to-I)
communications for V-Winet and V-ITS to provide timely information or
Internet access to vehicles, drivers, and passengers. Consequently,
V-Winet and V-ITS need to integrate existing networking technologies,
such as IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11p, DSRC, 3G, IEEE 802.16, Bluetooth,
Sensor networks, and ZigBee for easy, accurate, effective and simple
communications among vehicles, users, and infrastructure networks.
This special issue aims to foster the dissemination of high-quality,
original, unpublished research covering all aspects of V-Winet and V-ITS
communications, networking, and applications. Topics of interest include,
but not limited to, the followings:

- Network Architecture of V-Winet/V-ITS
- V-Winet/V-ITS Services and Applications
- Cooperative Aspects of V-Winet/V-ITS
- Availability and Scalability Issues in V-Winet/V-ITS
