CALL FOR PAPERS
-----------------------
The 4th IEEE/IFIP International Symposium on Network Centric Ubiquitous Systems (NCUS 2008) (http://www.cs.uc.edu/~qzeng/NCUS2008/NCUS2008.html)
to be held in conjunction with The 2008 IEEE/IFIP International Conference on Embedded and Ubiquitous Computing (IEEE/IFIP EUC 2008: http://epcc.sjtu.edu.cn/euc2008)
Shanghai, China, December 17-20, 2008
Historically, ubiquitous systems have been highly engineered for a particular task, with no spontaneous interactions among devices. Recent advances in wireless communication and sensor and actuator technologies have given rise to a new genre of ubiquitous systems. This new genre is characterized as self-organizing, critically resource constrained, and network centric. The fundamental change is communication: numerous small devices operating collectively, rather than as standalone devices, form a dynamic ambient network that connects each device to more powerful networks and processing resources.
NCUS'08 is the successor of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd IFIP International Symposium on Network Centric Ubiquitous Systems (NCUS'05,'06 and '07), held in Nagasaki Japan, Seoul Korea, and Taipei Taiwan, respectively. It offers a premier international forum for researchers and practitioners from both industry and academia, to discuss hot topics and emerging areas, to share recent progress and latest results, and to promote cutting-edge research and future cooperation on ubiquitous systems and ubiquitous networking.
Topics of interest include, but not limited to, the following:
1. Software engineering technologies and formal techniques for modeling, designing, and testing network centric ubiquitous systems
2. Hardware architectures, communication protocols, human-computer interaction and other enabling technologies for network centric ubiquitous systems
3. Theoretical foundations and algorithms for ubiquitous networking
4. Context awareness, adaptation and management in network centric ubiquitous systems
5. Peer-to-peer and overlay networks, systems, and applications in ubiquitous systems
6. Mobile networks, sensor networks, unmanned air and ground vehicle networks, and applications
7. Web services and middleware support for ubiquitous networking
8. Security and trust management in ubiquitous networks, systems, and applications
9. Energy management and harvesting for network centric ubiquitous systems
10. Simulation, performance evaluation, experiments, and trials of ubiquitous networks and applications
11. Comprehensive survey on timely topics
--------------------
Submission
--------------------
The submitted paper must be camera-ready and formatted according to the rules of IEEE CS. Final author manuscripts will be 8.5" x 11" (two columns IEEE format), not exceeding 6 pages with 10-12 point font. Helpful information for paper formatting can be found on the IEEE Authors Tools.
Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the paper at the workshop. For no-show authors, their papers will be removed from the digital library after the conference and their affiliations will be notified.
Please submit your paper from Submission web site. While submitting please do not forget to choose the symposium's name.
--------------------
Publications
--------------------
The accepted papers have to be presented orally at the conference and will be published in the proceedings (indexed by EI) of the EUC 2008 conference by IEEE Computer Society. The best papers presented at the symposium will be selected for publications in a special issue at JUCI (Journal of Ubiquitous Computing and Intelligence).
