[JCN] CFP: "COGNITIVE RADIO: A PATH IN THE EVOLUTION OF PUBLIC WIRELESS NETWORKS"

JCN SPECIAL ISSUE ON

COGNITIVE RADIO: A PATH IN THE EVOLUTION
OF PUBLIC WIRELESS NETWORKS

PUBLICATION DATE: April 2009

¡°Cognitive radio¡± has emerged as a promising technology for maximizing the utilization of the limited radio bandwidth while accommodating the increasing amount of services and applications in the wireless networks. Development of cognitive radio technology has to deal with technical and practical considerations as well as regulatory requirements, and therefore, there is an increasing interest in this technology among the researchers and the spectrum policy makers. This Special Issue of JCN intends to put together high-quality research articles featuring the recent advances in theory and applications of cognitive radio technology for the next generation wireless communication networks. Articles for this special issue will be solicited through an open call-for-papers and invitation to the experts in the field from industry and academia. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

" Challenges and issues in designing cognitive radio systems
" Measures of network capacity
" Architectures and protocols for cognitive wireless networks
" Generalized channel sensing functions
" Real-time spectrum sensing and dynamic channel allocation
" Signal detection and classification techniques
" Local and remote spectrum sensing
" Interference classification methods
" Modulation schemes for coexistence
" Novel cell structures and spatial re-use concepts
" Techniques for cooperative spectrum utilization
" Spectrum awareness and dynamic channel selection
" Distributed adaptation and optimization methods for cognitive radio
" Interoperability and co-existence issues
" Cross-layer optimization of cognitive radio systems
" Cognitive radio test-beds and hardware prototypes
" Emerging standards (e.g., IEEE 802.22)
" Regulatory issues on spectrum sharing
