IM 2009 includes a new kind of technical program, called Dissertation Digest Sessions in Network and Service Management. The sessions are an integral part of the 11th IFIP/IEEE International Symposium on Integrated Network Management (IM 2009), which will be held from 1 to 5 June 2009 in New York, USA at Columbia University.

The goal of the Dissertation Digest Sessions is to select and award the best Ph.D. work in the area of Network and Service management. Obtaining such award is an important achievement, which will be beneficial for the future academic (Postdoc) career. In addition, the sessions offer a unique opportunity for ex-Ph.D. students to communicate their research to a wide audience, composed by experts and professionals from the industry and academia, in the subject of network and service management.

The award will be given based on the following criteria:

1) Scope: Is the Ph.D. work within the scope of IM and related conferences (such as NOMS and ManWeek)?

2) Novelty and Contribution: What is the novelty of this Ph.D. work? Is it significant / will it be referenced in the next years?

3) Publications: What is the quality, quantity of papers, published as part of this Ph.D. work?

4) Impact on engineering practice: What is the impact of the Ph.D. work on engineering practice, such as standards, products, patents and/or open-source software?

5) Thesis: how well is the thesis organized and structured?

6) Overview paper / thesis abstract: How well does the overview paper (orthesis summary) identify the problems, approach and results?

Submission Instructions:

Authors who completed their thesis, including the defense, in 2007 or 2008, are invited to submit:

* A summary / extended abstract of the thesis.

* A link from which the complete Ph.D. thesis can be downloaded.

* A list of journal and conference papers, published as part of the Ph.D. work.

To be considered for the best PhD thesis award, the author must present the work at IM'09.

The summary / extended abstract will be included in the IM 2009 proceedings, and must be written in English, with at most 6 pages, formatted according to the IEEE double column style. The URL to the thesis, as well as the list of journal and conference papers, must be included in the reference section of the summary / abstract. Only PDF submissions will be accepted. The authors will be the ex-student and his/her supervisor(s); evidence of the defense and/or approval of the thesis may be requested by the co-chairs.

Paper submissions must be done through the IM 2009 web site, using the JEMS system ( https://submissoes.sbc.org.br/)

* Notification of Acceptance: December 15, 2008

* Camera-ready Copy: January 15, 2009
