WUWNet 09
The Fourth ACM International Workshop on
UnderWater Networks
In conjunction with ACM Sensys,

Berkeley, California, USA
Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
CALL FOR PAPERS
----------------------------------------
CALL FOR PAPERS
---------------
Water systems are of vital importance to the earth's life and
commerce. and WUWnet is the premier venue for early work bringing
real-time, in-situ sensing and actuation to this aquatic world.
The workshop will span one day, including presentations of technical
papers, a keynote talk, and a poster/demo session.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Underwater network architectures
* Efficient underwater communications, with techniques
from physical layer to application
* Cooperative underwater communications,
including, PHY, MAC, routing, and data transfer
* Services for underwater systems, such as localization,
time synchronization, reliable data transfer, security
* Communicating underwater vehicles (gliders, submersibles, etc.)
* Coordination algorithms for underwater vehicles and sensor nodes
* Modeling, simulation, and testbeds for underwater systems
* Applications of underwater sensing and actuation
* Deployment experiences of underwater systems and testbeds
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Submissions for technical papers must describe original research, not
published or currently under review for other workshops, conferences,
or journals.
The workshop accepts both full papers and short papers. Short papers
present new ideas or new visions that may influence the direction of
future research, yet they may be less mature than full papers. While
an exhaustive evaluation of the proposed ideas is not necessary,
insight and in-depth understanding of the issues is expected. Short
papers will be reviewed the same way as full papers by the technical
program committee and will be published in the workshop proceeding.
Full papers are expected to be more complete in their evaluation and
the maturity of the system and ideas.
All paper submissions will be handled electronically. Authors should
prepare a PDF version of their papers. The page limit for full papers
is 8 pages, and that for short papers is 4 pages in standard ACM
conference format. The title of short papers must start with the word
"Short Paper:", i.e., "Short Paper: My Turing-Award Title". Please
see the workshop website for definitive formatting guidelines and
sample templates.
All papers will be reviewed by the program committee for novelty and
contribution. All accepted papers will appear in the workshop
proceedings. The call for posters and demos will be announced
separately.

WUWNET 2009: CALL FOR WORK-IN-PROGRESS POSTERS
----------------------------------------------
The work-in-progress poster session will provide a forum for
researchers to showcase new and emerging work and obtain
feedback on ongoing research from workshop attendees. Topics
of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Underwater network architectures
* Efficient underwater communications, with techniques
from physical layer to application
* Cooperative underwater communications,
including, PHY, MAC, routing, and data transfer
* Services for underwater systems, such as localization,
time synchronization, reliable data transfer, security
* Communicating underwater vehicles (gliders, submersibles, etc.)
* Coordination algorithms for underwater vehicles and sensor nodes
* Modeling, simulation, and testbeds for underwater systems
* Applications of underwater sensing and actuation
* Deployment experiences of underwater systems and testbeds
Poster Submission Instructions:
Please submit an extended abstract (no more than 2 pages) of
your poster as a PDF e-mail attachment to <shengli at
engr.uconn.edu> with the subject line reading "WUWNet Poster
Submission" before the deadline. Please be as specific as
possible in describing what you will show. Accepted
abstracts will be posted and maintained on the workshop
website, but not published in the proceedings.

WUWNET 2009: CALL FOR DEMOS
---------------------------
Demonstrations of innovative research, applications, and
hardware/software products are solicited. Demonstrations of
technology, platforms, applications and products for all aspects of
underwater networks, communications, and models are of strong
interest. Submission from both industry and universities are
encouraged.
Demo Submission Instructions:
Please submit an extended abstract (no more than 2 pages) of your demo
as a PDF e-mail attachment to:
<shengli at engr.uconn.edu>
with the subject line reading "WUWNet Demo Submission" before the
deadline. Please be as specific as possible in describing what you
will demonstrate or exhibit. The extended abstract should include a
short description of space and equipment requirements. Accepted
abstracts will be posted and maintained on the workshop website, but
not published in the proceedings.
Important Dates:
