Network Economics, and Cognitive Radios
The department of wireless networks, a part of newly formed Institute  
of Networked Systems
at  RWTH Aachen University, has an open position for postdoctoral  
research scientist.
The position holder is expected to conduct research in the area of  
opportunistic spectrum
access an cognitive radio technologies. The postdoctoral researcher  
would work specifically
in the soon to begin collaborative research project, which aims at to  
understand true opportunities
of Dynamic Spectrum Access taking into account also network economics,  
regulatory rules, precision
measurements of spectrum holes, and novel technological opportunities.  
Apart of participating to this project,
candidate has also an opportunity to work in the context of UMIC  
Research Centre of RWTH Aachen that has
been funded through the excellence initiative of Federal and State  
Governments of Germany.
The position is predominantly a research position, but  includes also  
interaction with doctoral students
and researchers,  and involvement in collaborative work in industrial  
and international projects. Participation
in teaching and grant application activities will also be possible. A  
reasonable amount of travel is expected.
Candidates should have strong research and publication record and a  
PhD degree (or be near completion) in
a relevant field. The background in one or more of the following topic  
areas would be particularly valuable: network
economics, techno-economical modeling of telecommunication systems,  
quantitative economics in engineering
context, cognitive radios, dynamic spectrum access, or optimization of  
wireless communications systems.
The working language of the department and all projects is English.
The position can be made available starting 1.1. 2010. The position  
will be offered for two years, with a very
a possibility for contract extension for an extra year. The salary is  
based to the TvL-salary scales of German
Research Staff including statutory health insurance plan and annual  
holiday benefits. The successful candidate
will have a excellent working conditions, environment that encourages
