Re: [Tccc] Cost of attendance from developing countries / in general

While the IEEE, or more specifically ComSoc in our case, staff do provide
valuable support, contract negotiation has not been one of them in my
experience. In fact, any interference from NJ has a detrimental effect when we
negotiate locally. That aside, there is a 20% profit requirement in
ICC/Globecom, and it is profit as far as the conference budget is concerned.
The profit is needed to pay the support staff, staff travels to conference
venue, GICC travels, VIP dinners, non-conference-related meetings and
attendance, WCET, etc., etc. While some of these are well-justified, it is also
clear that ComSoc must become more fiscally responsible and cut its spending.

I'm also not sure about conferences funding the journals, and would like to see
the math there, esp. given the thousands of USD we have been paying for
overlength page charges.
