[Tccc] Call for Senior Researchers on Optical Networking - Athens Information Technology Center (AIT)

Call for Senior Researchers on Optical Networking - Athens Information
Technology Center

Athens Information Technology (AIT) Center invites applications for
post-doctoral researchers to work in the "High Speed Networks and
Optical Communications" (NOC) research group. Effective start date of
employment can be as early as July 1st 2010.

AIT, a Greek leading Center of Excellence for Research and Education
focusing in the areas of Telecommunications and Information Technology
is a not-for-profit educational organization founded in 2002.

AIT has a broad range of interests, know-how and tools to support state
of the art research work related with optical network infrastructures
for future applications with main emphasis on telecommunications and
global grid computing. Specific areas of interest include novel node
architectures for circuit-, burst- and packet- switching, optical system
and subsystem design, transmission management techniques including
electronic channel equalization and forward error correction, 100GE,
signaling and routing protocols, IP over optical networks, network
resilience, optical network security, traffic engineering etc. The NOC
group is currently involved in eight (8) FP7 ICT research projects
related with the objectives "The Network of the Future" and "Photonics".
In three (3) of these projects, AIT has also the role of Technical
Manager of the entire consortium.

Research topics relevant to the applicants (experience in more than one
topics is desirable):

(a) Network planning algorithms considering various constraints and
optimization techniques (multi-constraint optimization) and network
level performance evaluation
(b) Physical layer modeling of signal performance/quality prediction in
heterogeneous mixed bit-rate optical networks operating at 40Gb/s and
100Gb/s with advanced modulation formats and coherent detection
(c) Cognitive network control and management techniques and protocols
(d) High-speed network testbed setup and operation: experience with
controlling switches, cross-connects, emulated nodes, high-speed
electronics and FPGA-based implementations

Responsibilities for these positions include conducting research in the
above fields leading to publications in top international academic
journals and conferences; working in relevant EU Research projects that
the group is involved; and (if agreed) providing teaching support to
various graduate courses related with the expertise of the successful
candidate.

Applicants must have a doctorate in the general field of
Telecommunications Networks (with knowhow on optical networking
preferred), a strong record of published research and evidence of
research potential, as well as collegial spirit. Doctoral students in
their last year of their studies are also welcome to apply as well.

The working language at AIT is English therefore fluency in English is a
requirement. Non-Greek speaking candidates are welcome.

Compensation includes:
(a) Competitive monthly salary,
(b) travel grants to attend conferences, in addition to travel related
with project requirements.

The advertised positions will give the successful candidates the
opportunity to work in a well established and active group and utilize
the facilities of well equipped state-of-the art environment, develop
further their skills and experience offering them a prospect to
significantly enhance and progress their career.

Interested candidates may send a CV, names of three references and a
letter describing their research interests by April 30th, 2010, to:
