The French-Mexican Laboratory of Informatics and Automatic Control (LAFMIA)
is inviting applications for doctoral studies towards the degree of
Doctor of Philosophy around the following topics:
- event-based communications
- multimedia data management in distributed systems

About LAFMIA
------------------------
LAFMIA (http://lafmia.weebly.com) is a Mixed International Unit founded
in 2008
by the French National Research Council (CNRS). LAFMIA is composed by a
joint
French-Mexican network of Universities and Research centers and
excellence poles.
The main research directions in Informatics include:
- pervasive systems and multi-scale resource management;
- collaborative systems over heterogeneous networks;
- mobile and collaborative robotics; and
- management of data streams over clouds.

Details on the position
-------------------------
The selected candidate will be affiliated either with the
Grenoble Institute of Technology [1] or the Joseph Fourier University [2].
He/She will have the exciting opportunity to join an international research
network composed by top-level European, American and Asian universities,
antennas and partners of LAFMIA, and be eligible for funded research stays.
The main work place for the position will be at one of the LAFMIA's antennas
in France (Grenoble [3]) or Mexico (Puebla [4]), depending on the type
of funding.
A Ph.D student position at LAFMIA typically extends over three years and
includes
80% time for research and 20% for project and laboratory duties. The
starting date
for the positions is planned for the fourth quarter of 2010.

Qualifications
------------------------
We seek highly motivated individuals holding an M.Sc. degree, or
pursuing their
M.Sc. by June 2010, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a
related area.
Essential requirements for the applicants include excellent academic
credentials,
as well as ability to work in team. Knowledge of the English language is
required,
while knowledge of the French language is advantageous, but not mandatory.
Applicants must have a well-documented background in software engineering,
communication and/or computing and expertise in the following areas:
cloud computing, wireless networks, software engineering, multimedia
communication.
