[Tccc] Researcher position at Symantec Research Labs

Symantec Research Labs, the research organization within Symantec
Corporation, is seeking applicants for a full-time researcher position in
Herndon, VA (metropolitan Washington, D.C. area). The open position is part
of the Collaborative Advanced Research Department (CARD), a team made of
researchers located in the United States and Europe. The team is engaged in
long-term exploratory research activities utilizing resources that come from
Symantec and from external funding agencies. Typically, projects last from
two to four years, involve one or two CARD researchers full time and enable
Symantec, sometimes with the help of expertise from external partners, to
gain experience in domains that are potentially strategic for Symantec.
CARD's goal is to transfer the technology that is developed back to Symantec
whenever possible.

The responsibilities of the position are as follows:
. Conduct and potentially lead research projects with team members both
inside and outside of Symantec
. Produce technology that can be transferred internally within Symantec
. Publish research results in top-tier conferences and journals
. Contribute to writing of proposals for new research projects

The qualifications for the position are the following:
. Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field (recent or graduating this
year)
. Prior experience in university research or commercial development of a
major software project
. Strong systems programming knowledge and experience with the desire to
validate research ideas into working prototypes
. Strong fault tolerance background preferred
. Desired attributes of self-motivation and excellent communication
presentation skills
. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
