PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
======================
SAP Research Centers support SAP's long-term strategy through applied technology research. Located close to the campus of ETH Zurich, the SAP Research Center in Zurich focuses on application-oriented research in the areas of Smart Items applied to Enterprise Service Architectures. It combines SAP's technological know-how with the expertise of ETH Zurich.
The EU-funded research project TWISTnet gathers 7 different European academic and industrial partners and aims at supporting and securing the integration of sensor networks into large scale industrial scenarios ranging from nuclear plant monitoring, to energy management. Within the latter use cases, user's privacy, node authentication or data reliability are critical security requirements.
The TWISTnet project goal is to design a platform enabling business application to command and control sensor networks in a secure and trusted way. Integrating commercial off-the-shelf or pre-standard devices, that platform will serve as a mediation layer between the sensor network and industrial applications. Empowered with security protocols addressing the major business application security requirements (e.g. user's privacy, data confidentiality, reliability), the platform solution will be validated based on the identified use cases.

In the context of TWISTnet, we are looking for a highly motivated PhD student (f/m) who enjoys research and practical project work in a highly qualified and international environment.
You will have the possibility to gain both practical experience and theoretical knowledge within a highly motivated and international team. Supported and guided by a mentor, your tasks include analyzing the state of the art in the area of wireless sensor network security, designing and developing innovative security protocols to support the execution of challenging business applications such as nuclear plant monitoring, as well as documenting and communicating your research results.
