Post-doctoral Fellow / Research Professor Position Available at ITCE, POSTECH, Korea
The Autonomics Group of POSTECH (http://www.postech.ac.kr) is looking for a post-doctoral fellow or research professor (depending on qualifications and experience) to contribute in a wide range of new and exciting projects that use autonomic technologies to integrate knowledge from different disciplines into new technologies, products, and industries. This will lay the foundation for creating new converged technologies, systems, and industries that will overcome the current limits of ICT technology and create new synergies between inter-disciplinary research areas.
The Autonomics Group is part of POSTECH's new Division of IT Convergence Engineering (http://itce.postech.ac.kr), which is funded by the Korean Ministry of Education, Science and Technology as a World Class University (WCU) Program. This program was formed to initially focus on Ubiquitous Health and Environmental convergence by creatively integrating nano- and bio-technologies with autonomics, communications, networking, and information technology. This innovative school is founded on combining academic research with industrial prototyping and commercialization, enabling students to put theory to practical use during their course of study.
New disciplines such as bio-informatics must deal with an enormous amount of heterogeneous and complex data. We are developing a novel autonomic architecture that integrates data from heterogeneous sources into a unified model, so that hidden relationships and dependencies between the data can be uncovered and used. Using pattern recognition, machine learning, and other algorithms, our approach integrates data from disparate sources to generate inferences and new knowledge. Our architecture uses self-organizing principles and context-awareness to provide a self-governing system that can adjust the services and resources offered according to changing user needs, business goals, and environmental conditions.
This job position is initially for a one year term, which can be extended based on performance. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in computer science or in a related field, and will have a strong research record and publications record in autonomic, ubiquitous, or pervasive computing. Excellent writing and communications skills, augmented by strong programming skills and demonstrated practical experimental skills in networking, informatics, machine learning, or related disciplines, is required. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop and apply appropriate new research techniques to solve the research questions and extend the group's research in autonomics. Experience in bio-inspired systems, bio-informatics, nano-technology, and similar disciplines, is a plus.
POSTECH is a leading, private research-oriented science and engineering university in Korea. It offers a science park like environment with excellent research facilities and convenient amenities right on campus.
Interested candidates should contact Prof. John Strassner (johns@postech.ac.kr) or Prof. James Won-Ki Hong (jwkhong@postech.ac.kr) with an up-to-date CV, a research statement, and the contact details of three references.
