*Job Description*
Nokia, the world's leading mobile telecommunications company, recently
established a new research facility in Palo Alto to participate in the
Silicon Valley ecosystem while pursuing a wide range of experimental systems
research projects.

Nokia Research Center, Palo Alto, is focusing on the theme of collaborative
experiences and collective intelligence enabled by the emerging ubiquitous
wireless Internet, embracing an open innovation model and developing
collaborative relationships with universities and industry partners.

The MISS team researches collaborative location based services with a focus
on privacy and scalability issues. Our research is focused on building
end-to-end prototype systems to explore real-world issues. One example is
creating a global picture of real-time traffic condition on a large area by
aggregating limited knowledge from a large number of anonymous users with
GPS enabled cell phones, sometimes called Citizen Science. One of the main
projects of the team at this time is to design incentive schemes that give
reward to participants. Research issues include (but are not limited to):
incentive mechanism design, user privacy, and data integrity.


*Qualifications*
We are looking for graduate students in Computer Science, Electrical
Engineering, Economics, or related fields to do a three to six month
internship. Candidates are expected to have competence in Game theory,
Microeconomics, and programming skills (e.g., Java). Additionally, you
should have strong practical and problem-solving skills, ability to
effectively communicate, strong inclination to collaborate, and a passion to
create new and innovative solutions.
