[Tccc] Post-doc positions (2+2 years) in Communications and Networking at Aalto University (Finland)

Post-doc Positions in Communications and Networking

Aalto University (Helsinki, Finland)

Aalto University, established on 1 January 2010 as a merger of
Helsinki University of Technology, Helsinki School of Economics, and
the University of Art and Design, opens up new possibilities for
strong multi-disciplinary research and education, complementing the
strong track records of its individual constituents. Its location in
Helsinki also offers a broad range of cooperation opportunities with
industry and other research institutions. The recent establishment of
the EIT ICT Labs across five European nodes (Berlin, Eindhoven,
Helsinki, Paris, Stockholm) to foster joint research, education, and
innovation offers further excellent ways for international
cooperation.

The Department of Communications and Networking (Comnet) in the School
of Science and Technology (http://comnet.tkk.fi/en/) comprises nine
research groups with some 150 researchers. We cover a wide range of
research fields from radio communications to network architectures to
transport and application protocols and paradigms to fundamentals of
information theory and performance evaluation.

Comnet invites applications from excellent candidates for postdoctoral
research positions in the following fields:

* Network and protocol architecture and design (Jörg Ott)
* Networking, transport, energy, and security (Jukka Manner)
* Routing and switching (Raimo Kantola)
* Wireless communications -- L1/L2 aspects
(Jyri Hämäläinen, Olav Tirkkonen, and Riku Jäntti)
* Information theory and computational coding theory (Patric Östergård)
* Techno-economics of Mobile Internet services and networks
(Heikki Hämmäinen)

For details about the respective fields and the responsible
professors, please refer to http://comnet.tkk.fi/en/contact/prof/

Candidates are expected to take a leading role in present and future
research projects, develop their own research field, and conduct high
quality research published in leading venues. We expect eager
involvement in graduate teaching and student supervision.

The successful candidate has a recent PhD in Computer Science,
Electrical Engineering, or a related field, a strong research
background in the relevant communication and networking technologies,
and a track record of high-quality publications in the field. Comnet
puts strong emphasis on building and evaluating real systems so that
the candidate should be knowledgeable in the fields of system design,
operating systems, and software technologies. Besides an active role
in the international research community, active contributions in the
IETF, IRTF, IEEE, or similar bodies as well as open source projects
are welcome.

The positions will be filled for 2 years and may be extended by 2 more
years. Starting dates should be Fall 2010.

Applications should include a cover letter, a research statement, a
CV, a full list of publications and community activities, a list of
references, and copies of three to five high-impact publications.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received and will be
accepted until 31 May 2010.

Please submit your application via email to: apply@comnet.tkk.fi
