[Tccc] Student Travel Grants for SECON 2010

Overview:

SECON 2010 has received funding from the IEEE Communications Society
to provide a limited number of student travel grants to help student
members to attend the conference. SECON 2010 also expects to receive
funding for student travel grants from the U.S. National Science
Foundation (NSF). The grants aim to support graduate students in U.S.
and international academic institutions to attend the 5th IEEE SECON
Conference in Boston from June 21 to 25. An important goal is to
broaden participation in the conference by supporting students with
interests in sensor, mesh, and ad hoc network communications research,
who would otherwise be unable to attend.

Form and Amount of Support:

The support is intended to defray, but not necessarily to cover
entirely, the costs of attending the conference. Reimbursement amounts
will be determined in part by travel costs; consideration
will be given for those who have higher travel costs.

The award will be handled via reimbursements. Each legitimate expense
must be documented with an original official receipt (e.g., air ticket
and hotel receipt). The reimbursement will be sent as a check via
postal mail six to eight weeks after submitting the reimbursement
forms and supporting receipts. Further details of the reimbursement
procedure will be communicated to the award recipients.

Eligibility for Student Travel Grants:

To qualify for the IEEE ComSoc Student Travel Grant, the applicant
must satisfy all of the following requirements:
* Be an author of an accepted conference paper and presents the
paper at the conference;
* Be a Student Member of the IEEE Communications Society (from any
region) when submitting the application;
* Be a Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. degree student when submitting
the application;
* Applicant may not receive more than one STG in any 12-month period.
* Applicant did not receive funding from other sources for this
conference travel.

To qualify for the NSF Student Travel Grant, the applicant must be a
US-based students, that is, a Ph.D. students attending universities in
the US (but do not necessarily need to be US citizens or permanent
residents). Priority is given to student authors with accepted
papers, posters, or demos at SECON 2010 who would not otherwise be
able to attend due to budgetary constraints. Priority is also given
to students who are volunteers with SECON events. Special efforts
will be made to recruit student participants who are underrepresented
in STEM disciplines, and who are coming from diverse institutions.

Application Process and Notification:

The applicant should send an application containing:
* A resume or CV
* A letter that briefly summarizes (1) the applicant's current
research interests / accomplishments, (2) a description of how SECON
will benefit his/her professional development, (3) information
regarding the student's qualifications for the IEEE ComSoc and/or the
NSF travel grant, as described in Eligibility above.
* A supporting letter from the advisor stating that (1) the
student is in good academic standing in the PhD program, (2) why the
student is in need of a travel grant, and (3) how SECON will benefit
the student's research progress.

Applications should be submitted by May 24 via email to the Travel
