ACM/Springer Multimedia Systems Journal
Special Issue on Wireless Multimedia Transmission Technology and Application
http://www.ifi.uio.no/MMSJ/CFP_SI_Wireless_MMSJ.pdf
The rapid expansion of wireless services from voice communication to high
performance multimedia communication in recent years is an indication that
significant value is placed on portable multimedia applications as key
innovations for both academia and industry. The emerging wireless multimedia
transmission techniques can be used for various pervasive and ubiquitous
applications such as health care, environmental monitoring, security and
surveillance. There are however a number of important challenges that arise
when time-constrained multimedia streams are transmitted in these new
wireless systems.
The goal of this issue is to bring together the state of the art research
contributions that describe original and unpublished work addressing
wireless multimedia transmission algorithms, technologies and applications.
Topics of primary interest include, but are not limited to:
- Multimedia transmission in new emerging systems (e.g., heterogeneous
networks, relay networks, LTE-Advanced)
- Multimedia resource allocation and scheduling
- Multimedia coding and delivery standards efforts
- IPTV, 3DTV, and mobile TV related efforts
- Cross-layer optimization for wireless multimedia transmission
- Error resilient encoding, concealment and recovery in multimedia
transmission
- Joint source-channel optimization for wireless multimedia transmission
- Heterogeneous, fixed and mobile systems, convergence, interoperability
and cooperative control
- Impact of mobility management on the QoS of wireless multimedia
services
- Security mechanisms and schemes for wireless multimedia communications
- Multimedia quality assessment
- New emerging wireless multimedia applications
