The Mobile & Internet Systems Laboratory (MISL) conducts basic and
applied research in computer networking for mobile/wireless and
multimedia systems. Led by Prof. Sreenan, the laboratory is supported
externally by several Irish and international companies, Enterprise
Ireland, the EU and Science Foundation Ireland.
Applications are now invited for the following position on a new
applied research project that is expected to commence in
September/October 2009. This project will involve very close research
collaboration with an established telecommunications company, working
to optimise the delivery of data over back-haul communication links in
3G/4G mobile networks. Note that this position is advertised subject
to funding being awarded for the project.
Post-Doctoral Researcher
The holder of this position will have an important role within the
project, working to define and implement the specific research
solutions for traffic classification, backhaul link management and
quality of service. Duties will also include assisting in management
activities such as project planning and report writing. This is an
applied research project, and as such will involve very close
interaction with the sponsor company, and a focus on delivering
practical research solutions and prototypes following a well-defined
schedule.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in computer science/engineering and
have prior relevant research expertise in the area of mobile telecoms.
Knowledge of C/C++ development in a Linux environment will be viewed
as beneficial. Applicants must also have excellent inter-personal
skills and a demonstrated capability to work well in a team. The
successful applicant will receive gross salary of ?41-54K per annum,
depending on experience and qualifications. The position is available
for 18 months, and is open to applicants of any nationality.
