Research Positions in Sensor Networks : Sensor Network Virtualization


The Intelligent Systems Centre (IntelliSys) is a research centre
jointly set up by the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the
Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering).

The Sensor Networks and Cyber-Physical Systems research program in
IntelliSys is working on R&D issues with the goal of developing
impactful sensor network and cyber-physical system applications for
large-scale deployment.

We are starting a new research project to develop a semantics-based
and service-oriented framework for the virtualization of sensor
networks, which will enable the seamless interoperability and
scalability of heterogeneous sensor node platforms from different
commercial vendors. For this project, we are inviting applications
for the following research positions.


1. Research Scientist / Research Fellow

Responsibilities :
* Conduct research on the design of the sensor network virtualization
framework.
* Work on the architecting and implementation of the sensor network
virtualization framework on several existing commercial sensor node
platforms.
* Help to mentor junior members of the team.

Requirements :
* A PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical
Engineering, or related fields. Will consider excellent PhD
candidates who are close to graduation.
* Substantial research expertise in one or more of the following
areas: sensor networks, embedded systems, semantic network, service-
oriented architecture, virtualization.
* Excellent experience in developing system software.
* Excellent hands-on experience in platform technologies such as
TinyOS, Linux, real-time OS, web services, etc.
* Excellent programming skills in C/C++, Java, etc.
* Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

Desirable Attributes :
* Great interest and desire to be a productive researcher.
* Good publication record in reputable journals or conferences.
* Innovative, resourceful, and self-motivated.
* A team player with good people skills.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.


2. Research Engineer / Research Associate

Responsibilities :
* Implement the sensor network virtualization framework on several
existing commercial sensor node platforms.
* Develop novel prototype sensor network virtualization applications.
* Perform extensive testing and performance evaluation of the sensor
network virtualization framework.
* Help senior researchers in the team to perform research.

Requirements :
* A Masters in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical
Engineering, or related fields. Will consider candidates with good
Bachelors (Honors) degree and substantial relevant work experience.
* Good experience in one or more of the following areas: sensor
networks, embedded systems, semantic network, service-oriented
architecture, virtualization.
* Excellent experience in developing system software.
* Excellent hands-on experience in platform technologies such as
TinyOS, Linux, real-time OS, web services, etc.
* Excellent programming skills in C/C++, Java, etc.
* Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

* Innovative, resourceful, and self-motivated.
* A team player with good people skills.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Successful candidates will receive a competitive remuneration package
commensurate with their qualifications and experience. Those who
perform well will be considered for long-term positions in IntelliSys
or ST Engineering.
