Hi, Stephen,

It's useful to note that many ideas get into industry without a citation
at all. I'm not sure how to measure utility either, though.

I think we can all do our part by doing the best work we can. For me, I
can tell you that this means a rule of thumb as "don't write it down if
it isn't going to be true in at least 5 years". That's my rule; for
others, other timeframes may be useful.

I.e., do work you can be proud of. Figure out what other work is worth
your time and go to those conferences, send your papers there too. If
there are meetings you feel don't live up to your standards, decline to
participate - don't send your papers there, don't participate in those
TPCs. AFAICT, the rest will take care of itself.
