Applications are invited for a Senior Fellow / Industry Liaison position
with
the Telecommunications Software & Systems Group (TSSG)
(http://www.tssg.org) at Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT),
Waterford,
Ireland. The candidate will work as a senior member of the Science
Foundation Ireland funded FAME strategic research cluster
(http://www.fame.ie), comprising TSSG and research groups from Irish
universities Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, University
College Cork and National University of Ireland, Maynooth, together with
Irish R&D centres of Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Ericsson, IBM and
international researchers from HP and Telefónica I+D.
Reporting to the FAME director, Dr Willie Donnelly, the candidate will
assume responsibility for coordinating academic partner liaison with
industry partners and supporting the development and exploitation of the
cluster's intellectual property portfolio. In parallel, the candidate will
actively contribute to TSSG's FAME research programme in one or more
of the areas of: autonomic network and service management; service-level
monitoring; management policy authoring and analysis; initialisation and
control of management federations; and distributed resource allocation in
wired and wireless networks. The candidate will work closely with the
existing team of TSSG post-doctoral researchers and be a member of the
supervisory committees of a number of PhD students. He/she will also have
the opportunity to promote the engagement of the FAME cluster in ongoing
and future European FP7 projects relating to Future Internet services,
networks and security.
Candidate Profile
The candidate will ideally have experience in a senior role within an
academic/industrial R&D environment in the telecommunications area,
combined with a strong track record of research, supported by evidence
of generation of academic publications and/or patents. Experience of the
intellectual property exploitation process would be a distinct
advantage, as
would a track record of involvement in the activities of
telecommunications,
Internet or web standardisation bodies. Excellent organisational,
communication and people management skills are required.
Contract Duration and Remuneration
A contract of an initial duration of two years will be offered to the
successful
candidate; this will be extended subject to performance and the
extension of
the cluster's funding period. The indicative salary range is EUR80-100k
p.a., but
will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The successful
candidate would ideally relocate to Waterford, although other Irish
locations
could also be accommodated. Waterford Institute of Technology is an
